I joined this group a year or so ago before I came back to Melbourne, but haven't been active due to a new job, a 1 year old at home and another on the way.
But I'm new to my craft (leather work & steampunk) and wanted to be able to share ideas with other people in Melbourne interested in the same.
I've also haven't been to Meetup for a while and didn't realise Omega was discontinuing as the group organiser. As such, I've missed the imminent closure of the group and haven't seen any discussion about it.
I believe this group has a future.
I've paid for 1 month of Meetup presence to see if there is enough interest to continue. I am not suggesting that I know what is best for the group but I want to give it a chance.
There are two obvious benefits for us to continue:
- Social events
- Craft exchange
There are 114 members, and we have been attracting 2 / month.
It will cost us $144 per year to stay registered on Meetup. So in addition to active interest, I also suggest that we should introduce an annual subscription to cover this cost.
I am going to create some new Meetups where you can show your interest, effectively creating a vote yes or no in support of each. It would be fantastic to hear from everyone on what they think the group might be able to do. I'm also posting this to the Board so replying here or posting there will both be heard. You can also pm me if you want.
We are an incredibly diverse group with an amazing range of skills and interests. Meetups can be small or large, or we can just be social on line.
Hope you can make the time to be heard over the next few weeks.
