Dennis Ashby (https://twitter.com/Dennis_Ashby) (StrongLoop, IBM’s Interactive Services Organization) (https://strongloop.com/): Developing REST APIs

In the era of mobile, average mobile app consumes at least a dozen APIs to fulfill users’ requests. A well-conceived and properly implemented API (http://searchsoa.techtarget.com/essentialguide/enterprise-architects-guide-to-api-best-practices-and-trends) strategy is essence in any mobile and cloud program. And API has the potential to drive innovation, increase productivity, and create new channels and markets. Join this session with Dennis Ashby, Director of the IBM StrongLoop Lab Services Team in San Francisco, to learn how financial services leader AXA used a centralised approach to API creation with StrongLoop Arc to develop a new, innovative mobile initiative.

StrongLoop is an American company working with Node.js to create and support StrongLoop Suite, a Mobile API Tier. StrongLoop employs two members of the Node.js Technical Steering Committee. Built on top of the open source LoopBack framework, StrongLoop allows you to visually develop REST APIs in Node and get them connected to your data.StrongLoop also features built-in features like push and offline sync, plus graphical tools for clustering, profiling and monitoring Node apps.

Victor Augusteo (https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoraugusteo) (PwC Experience Centre (http://digital.pwc.com/experiencecenter/)): Streamlining APIs with Swagger.io

Learn about the way Swagger stack and OpenAPI-spec can help you and your team to design, develop and implement API server, client and documentation.

In this talk we will explore what Swagger is, how it can help you streamline your team's API development. The finale will be a live demo on how to deploy Ruby Sinatra API server and Swift iOS client using the Swagger code generation in 5 minutes.

Stewart Gleadow (https://twitter.com/stewgleadow) (Bilue (https://bilue.com.au/)): Apps and APIs - Best Friends Forever

Mobile apps are powered by APIs, and the trend for building the backend is towards small, fast moving microservices. These granular backends aren’t always well suited to integration with mobile apps. Companies like REA, SoundCloud and Thoughtworks have been experimenting with patterns for developing Backends For Frontends (BFFs) to allow greater flexibility on both the client and the server. Stewart will talk about some of the concerns when building mobile apps and APIs and how the BFF pattern tries to address these.
