Tech Talk: 'Making WiFi Truly Fast (Again)' by Dave Taht

Details
You're invited to the Fall edition of the Cisco Meraki Tech Talk series. Our first talk will be presented by Dave Taht, of Bufferbloat.net.
Abstract.
The Bufferbloat project was founded nearly 4 years ago to explore solutions as to why modern data networks became so slow when loaded. We set out to explore the literature, and code, from the earliest days of the Internet to today, to try and find out what had gone wrong, and to find ways to fix it.
The result of that effort (so far!) has been a renaissance in interest in congestion control, and huge - orders of magnitude - improvements in network latency along the edge of the Internet, with new algorithms and code now deployed widely in Linux and in multiple edge routing platforms. Surprisingly, we also made large improvements in simultaneous bidirectional goodput.
Next up, is making wifi fast, again.
Bio.
Dave Taht is the co-founder (with Jim Gettys) of the Bufferbloat project. The Bufferbloat project was founded nearly 4 years ago to explore solutions as to why modern data networks became so slow when loaded. Dave will talk about all the fixes for bufferbloat now in Linux, dramatically reducing network latencies on mismatched uplinks, ethernet, cablemodems, etc. He’ll also demo netperf-wrapper, a tool for bufferbloat analysis and detail what can be done to improve latency on wifi.
Schedule
6:30pm - food + drinks
7pm - talk
8pm - q&a
When you arrive at Meraki please head up to the 4th floor lobby, grab a name tag, and meet us in the Zeitgeist Cafeteria. We'll be serving dinner, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks. We'll also send out directions, bike and car parking info, etc. to those who RSVP.
See you there!
