Local atheist group is looking for a church

Metroplex Atheists is calling on a local church to publicly demonstrate what Christians often refer to as “the power of prayer.”

“We’d like a church to come forth and commit to praying for three months that one of our members will become a Christian during that time,” said Randy Word, president of Metroplex Atheists.

Prominent local atheist and former Metroplex Atheists president Terry McDonald has volunteered to be the test subject for the demonstration.

Metroplex Atheists and the church will agree on a specific start date and end date for the prayers. Once the outcome is determined, Metroplex Atheists and the selected church will make public statements regarding the results.

“The church will also be welcome to enlist the prayers of other churches and all Christians everywhere if they wish,” McDonald said. “And if they’d prefer to have six months or a year, that’s fine, too, as long as they commit up front to a specific time frame.”

McDonald is a former Catholic who was once active in the church. He abandoned religion and became an atheist in his 30s. He served as president of Metroplex Atheists from 2006 to 2011 and is still an active member.

Churches interested in participating in the prayer demonstration are asked to contact Metroplex Atheists at [address removed], or through the online contact form at www.metroplexatheists.org.

Prayer in the Christian bible

Matthew 21:22 says: “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Mark 11:24 says: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
