Our Website...

The purpose of this meetup group is to provide a studio location and workshops for freelance and fine art photographers to develop their craft at an affordable cost.  We are able to keep the cost of the studio use down due to our coop structure.

At the Wynwood Lofts Studio we feature fashion and design, portraiture, figurative/fine art nude, the performing arts (dance and theater) and of course, street photography. Each of these thematic areas has made a great contribution to photography throughout the world.  We hold events in each of these topic areas.  The group will facilitate events, including workshops, networking meetings, and photography exhibits.

We will be offering a series of monthly thematic workshop including: i) Basic Studio Lighting,  ii) Fashion Photography, iii) Lighting and Posing the Nude, and iv) Portrait Photography as well as other workshops on special topics. Workshops are be small, highly interactive, and feature outstanding models, as well as photographers and models visiting Miami from other parts of the world.  We will shoot in both a studio setting, and on location, taking advantage of the many great venues in the Miami area. Fees for the workshops go to cover the costs of these activities, including the rent and utilities at the studio, the lighting equipment, and the fees of instructors and models.

We are fortunate to have access to a photography studio and gallery for the meetup group in the Wynwood Arts District just minutes from the airport and the beaches, and with public transportation nearby. The studio consists of approximately 1000 sq feet of floor space (35' by 35') and large, loft style windows.  There is also access to a large rooftop deck with panoramic views of the Miami cityscape at night, and a small swimming pool for underwater shoots.

The studio is operated as a photography cooperative, although it may be used both by members and non-members. Although primarily used as a photography studio and gallery, we welcome other uses of the studio for special events, from music to dance to theater and graphic arts.

The studio offers a full professional lighting setup, including:

- 3x 500W Hensel monolights w. Pocket Wizards

- softboxes, strip box, snoot, beauty dish and umbrellas

- seamless paper background (stock white and grey paper)

- a variety of props and accessories

STUDIO RENTAL/PHOTOGRAPHY:  The studio will be available for rental by members 24/7. Introductory Rates: Rates are $25/hr for the studio rental by Coop Members.  The rental fee for the use of the studio lighting equipment and Pocket Wizards is $30.  To reserve the studio, we require payment of a $25/reservation fee which is non-refundable in the event of cancellation.  A signed Rental Contract are required when using the studio for the first time.  To determine availability visit the CALENDAR at the meetup page. To reserve studio time, send an email to the Organizer.

STUDIO ASSOCIATE PROGRAM: The Miami Photo Coop has 6 Studio Associates, who are photographers who use the studio on a monthly basis and receive a discounted rate on the use of the studio, as well as participate in a cooperative approach to developing, promoting and supporting the other members of the Associate Program.  Interested parties should contact the meetup Organizer.

WORKSHOPS: A monthly series of photography  workshops conducted by our photographers provide instruction on studio lighting, fashion and figurative photography, as well as digital workflow.  We also have started a registry of models and makeup artists that are users of the studio, to facilitate putting creative talent together for member's projects.

GALLERY: We will hold photography exhibits in the gallery area, featuring both photographers who are part of the Miami Photo Coop, as well as other talented photographers.  We expect to include fashion, figurative, urban/street and performing arts photography and we have a on-going program of future exhibits.

PRINTER & PHOTOSHOP FACILITIES: The Studio also has access to  44" inch Epson 9900 and 24"  Epson 3800 printers.  We offer workshops on printing, as well as one on one sessions with photographers who want to print their color or black and white work on Hannemuelle, Ilford, Epson papers, as well as canvas and other materials.

The studio can be used as a social area which can comfortably seat up to 12 for small class, or discussion group gatherings, and features a flat screen TV with an Internet connection, as well as a stereo system. Larger groups of up to 25  can be accommodated in the studio and adjoining outdoor areas.  The studio also has access to a complete kitchen, and full bath with shower/bathtub.

The neighborhood around the Studio includes a Panther Coffee, Lester's, Joey's and and other several bars and restaurants, as well as being just a 5 minute drive to the best restaurants in Miami on 36th St.

The location is also conveniently just 15 minutes from Miami International Airport, and a few blocks to the causeway to Millionairs Row and South Beach. Public transportation is available including the Metro stop at the Arts Center 10 blocks away.  There is ample street parking directly in front of the studio and the studio is located in a gated community with security cameras.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
