Would be nice to have face to find at a Meetup event. I had a photo of myself and someone from the group found me.

Agree with suggestion of a meeting point. Although I talked with many photographers, don't really know if all were with our group. I sat on both sets of bleachers by the basketball courts and wandered around from there talking with several photographers.

Beautiful! My first balloon festival and the fireworks were awesome! Such a huge crowd. Many photographers attended; got to talk with some of them.

Quite a few people here this morning, but the hush of expectancy is amazing :)

Marty enjoyed meeting you and grabbing some photos together. Agreed better planning would have made it a lot easier to get the group together. Probably should pick a rallying point before hand.

I've never been to this festival before. Is there a certain place that we'll be meeting? Also, I won't be able to get there until 5:30/5:45. Any suggestions on where to park?

    August 23, 2013

  • Vernon D.

I just joined this group and was looking forward to this evening but I have another appointment at the same time. I will try to go early Sunday. Don't know if any one else from the group will be there.

Hi. Thanks for the pictures below. I am going to attend, not sure if I should go on Friday night or Saturday. I'm an hour away, don't want a traffic problems, and am just learning to shoot at night (don't always know what to set camera on :)). Would I get better shots, park easier, have more fun in the the morning? Thanks so much.

http://www.plainville... Per the website - there is a launch at 6AM on both days~

THanks for confirming, Kathy - I thought it was both mornings. I think Mark and I are going on Saturday morning, if weather is going to cooperate. We need to leave in time to get to Enfield by 10 to pick up his truck. We'll meet you there! ;)

      August 22, 2013

  • Christine Lumbra Y.

I'm going to try to get there Saturday morning.

I always go Saturday morning because I like early morning events. I would have hosted a Saturday one, but I'm not here this weekend. Would love to see dawn photos in the folder if people shoot then. :)

I've shot this event in the past and went on a Saturday morning to watch them take off at dawn - Very Spectacular! As for this year, I don't know the schedule, but whenever the launches occur are the best photo ops...

I looks like Fri night is going to be hectic. I'm going to try to make it, if not, I'll go early on Sat or Sun. I'm always in my zone when I shoot really early in the morning! I would love to get some night shots though!

    1 · August 22, 2013

If you want to learn a new technique (shooting at night or low light) this is a great opportunity as there will be many seasoned photographers there. I am sure any one of them will be willing to show you some ways to shoot in low light. Go ahead and pish the envelope! Dot is correct about the morning mass ascent is great too well worth the second trip. (I live 40 minutes away and will be making both trips)

Thanks for sharing -- I try looking for them and had no luck.

Does anyone know how long this event can take? cause I have to work at least until 6pm that day.

    July 14, 2013

    • Ira D.

Hi May, Welcome aboard. The event ends at 10:30 PM. Another option, is to go early in the morning on Saturday or Sunday when they launch the balloons. We went last year at that time and it was great to be able to roam around, get photos of the balloons being inflated, and flying. You can see the photos our group posted on our Photos area (you'll see a link at the top of the page) and then search the posting from last years event. Hope this helps.

One more thing... this type of event is very dependent on the weather. Winds, rains, or fog would mean the event is cancelled for safety reasons, but there's a chance it would go on Sunday weather permitting.

Friday night last till after dark. Balloon glow is great fun, but the place is a zoo and if you don't get there early, you will have an issue finding parking. Sat and Sun AM launches are less crowded and parking is pretty easy if you get there around 5AM. The field fill quickly with balloons and photographers. The event needs a rename to "The Plainville Hot Air Photographer Fest.

    3 · July 15, 2013

    • Dot

Absolutely true, Stephen! The glow is a great event, if you've never seen one, but mornings are much better for being able to move around the place!

      July 15, 2013

  • Ginger G.

I go every year, it'll be nice to chat with other photographers

    1 · July 10, 2013

Unsure on the Friday night, but most likely for a morning launch with less crowds!

This Meetup event sounds great. I am not sure I will be able to attend, and there is no official host. Would any of the attendees like to be the "Host?" The name on the invitation (Warren) is the name of the person who came up with the idea for this event. If you (whoever you are) would like to be a host, just reply in this conversation and I will add "Host" to your name for this event only.

Duties of a Host: arrive at the meetup on time or earlier, greet meetup members, get a count/names (if possible), and enjoy the event. A "host" is not needed for the event, but would be nice. The meetup will go on regardless.

Would love to, but I'll be taking my youngest to college that day.
