Downtown New London, USCG Barque Eagle, Fort Trumbull

New London has been undergoing a rennaissance. There are a lot of interesting shops, galleries, historic districts, murals and more. The USCG Barque Eagle should be back in home port which we'll be able to tour. I went down there a week ago and was impressed on how much the city changed for the better. Sunset is at 7: 48 PM for those of us who'd like to stay later.
Here's a few ideas: http://www.newenglandtravelplanner.com/go/ct/ct_shore/new_london/sights.html

NOTE: EAGLE is moored up at City Pier in downtown New London adjacent to the train station

The Eagle is a beautiful ship. Enjoyed the tour.
I didn't do the downtown--I went from the park to the ship.

Sorry, I had to un-RSVP; a family matter came up. Looks like you'll still have a good turnout and fantastic weather, so enjoy New London!

I've been able to have a tour of the Eagle for our group. We'll learn a lot more history of this tall ship, as well as a tour below decks. This is ordinary not available to the public.

    >Our New London photo op starts at 2 PM at Fort Trumbull and then we'll move to downtown to shoot around town.

    >>Our tour of the Eagle will be at 5 PM.<<

This will give us time to shoot around New London, and return to the Eagle for a rarely available tour of the ship.

NOTE: We cannot photograph the cadets for security reasons.

Bank Street has the famous Hygenic Mural and a slew of several-times-repurposed buildings that are sure to please anybody who is into vintage urban architecture. There are some wonderful churches within a few minutes of each other on State & Huntington Streets. NL is less than a mile wide and has an oddly squashed feeling, like some of those streets should have gone in a straight line but don't any more.

My friend owns an art gallery/tattoo studio right on Bank Street. I've been watching her website to see if she has an interesting exhibit coming up. Will keep you posted.

Ocean Beanch Park will be preparing for the summer Beach seson by that time. A few miles down the road has an extensive board walk, and coastal marsh area.

I have a number of photos I took this Winter while researching the town for this photo op.
I know there are historic captains houses, and a lot of murals throughout town.
We also will cover the Barque Eagle (Tall ship) and Fort Trumbull.
It's an area that should be a memorable photo op.
My photos are on my Flickr photostream and are searchable.
http:www.flickr.com/photos/iradick, then put New London in the search my photostreams.

Keep your ideas coming Eddie, we appreciate it.

Practically in my back yard. There are several photo worthy attractions across the river in Groton too for those who might be interested. (My wife's ancestors, the Avery's were some of the first settlers in the area in the 1600's).

Thanks Lance. Feel free to post them here. I hope the Avery's holds the lease to Electric Boat Shipyard.

My good friend owns an art gallery on Bank Street - I'll keep you posted if there happens to be an exhibit running on that date. And...Two Wives Pizza is our favorite place to eat - wood-fired pizza and fun environment. ;)

If you'd like to go to the USCG Academy, you'll need to show ID and can not takes pictures of the cadets.

If you want to go aboard the Eagle, you'll have to sign in.
They are active military installations and security is an issue, although I had no problems when I visited.
