Tuesday, April 27th at 7:00pm in Grand Rapids
What makes religion so powerful? How does religion weave its way into our political system? Why is sexual guilt so important to all the major religions? Why do people believe and follow religious charlatans? What makes people profess deep faith, yet act in ways that betray that faith? Why are people blind to irrationalities of their religion, yet clearly see those of others?
Dr. Darrel Ray will answer these questions and more in this informative and engaging lecture based on his recent book. A Q&A session will follow the lecture.
Copies of The God Virus will be available for purchase at the event. Dr. Ray will be available for a book signing following the lecture. Additional information below.
The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture
TUESDAY, April 27,
2010, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Women's City Club, Upper Level, 254 E. Fulton St., Grand Rapids, MI, View Details »
Presented by Darrell Ray, Ed.D., Author of The God Virus, Organizational Psychologist
NOTE: This event is on TUESDAY, and replaces our regular 4th Wednesday meeting for April.
For thousands of years, religion has woven its way through societies and people as if it were part and parcel to that society or person. In large measure it was left unexplained and unchallenged, it simply existed. Those who attempted to challenge and expose religion were often persecuted, excommunicated, shunned, or even executed. It could be fatal to explain that which the church, priest or imam said was unexplainable.
Learn how Dr. Darrel Ray's ideas explain: the fundamentalism of your Uncle Ned, the sexual behavior of a fallen mega church minister, the child rearing practices of a Pentecostal neighbor, why 19 men flew planes into the World Trade Center, why religion protects pedophile priests and how it might affect a person’s IQ.
· Meetings are open to the Public
· Cost: $6.00 general admission. Free for Friends of the Center.
· Copies of The God Virus will be available for purchase. A book signing will follow lecture.
