Elixir/Erlang discussion

NOTE: The date has been changed to Tuesday, July 1.

It has been a while since our last meeting! Erlang OTP 17 has been released. Elixir and its ecosystem also continues to mature. Let's get together and discuss what is new, exciting and interesting. Is there something you don't like about Erlang 17 or Elixir? Come share that too.

As usual, I'd like to promote a more informal format: multiple people can make brief presentations (5 - 15 minutes) and pick one item to share. If you want to talk longer, that's fine too. Post a quick comment under this meetup and let everyone know what you'd like to share to prevent too much overlap.

Also, I mentioned the Chicago Erlang Conference on Sept 22nd. If you're interested, http://www.chicagoerlang.com Registration is not yet open, but that'll be where it is when it is. Also, if you're at all interested, the Chicago Erlang User Group meets a few times a year as well (probably averages about 6 times a year). I try to make as many as I can, but of course, Chicago. http://www.meetup.com/ErlangChicago/

Too late for me. I bought my ticket last month, but it was still pretty cheap

Thanks Joel. And Thanks Art for giving the code, I completely forgot!

Four great presentations on various functional languages. Lots of enthusiasm and a depth of knowledge in the attendees. It was a great time.

We have so much interesting news since our last meetup. In the spirit of previous meetings, it would be nice to have a few people lined up to share something brief to keep the conversation rolling.

So far we have Jesse talking about Erlang 17 data structures, especially the new maps.

Anyone else have an interesting nugget from Erlang 17? I'd also love some discussion around Elixir. I know a few from the group attended Bruce Tate's workshop recently. No need to be an "expert" to present something you found interesting.

I plan on talking and demoing Idris.

We also had Apple's recent announcement of Swift, which has some FP concepts baked in. Anyone care to chat about that from an FP perspective?

Please reply to this comment if you're willing to do a small show and tell on these or any other FP topics.

I would like to do a 5-10 min short demo on Elm, a functional language that compiles to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Sweet! I was just about to post that I was going to miss half of it because that was the start of my volleyball leagues, but Tuesdays are wide open for me, so kick ass! I'll be here will bells on!

Glad you can make it. Would you be willing to share some cool nuggets from Erlang 17? (or anything else exciting in the world of FP). I like to have at least a handful of people lined up to talk in advance.

Of course. I can talk about erlang data structures and the effect the new maps structure will likely have on their usage.

Wow! That Corvisa became the new Bucket Works.

Ok, I should have checked first. Corvisa is booked every Wednesday. I'm checking Tuesday, June 17 next. I'll add a comment once this is confirmed, but let's plan that for now. Sorry for the confusion!
