The talk revolve around BestBuy's Search journey – starting a decade ago up to the present with a projection into the future – with the hope that the audience is able to learn from the experience. In that context, Arun will describe how BestBuy picked the Lucene/SOLR ecosystem, how it has performed, lessons learned and his hopes for how it will evolve. The talk will sketch the metamorphosis that was needed to transform the team and the company from the past to the present and his projection of what is still required – the skillsets, the culture, the technology and the processes. Arun's team has embraced DevOps, releases weekly and does this with a small, smart team that is learning to master the capabilities of Lucene/SOLR and build on it. BestBuy's online channel, bestbuy.com, is among the top 10 e-commerce sites, and rises to the top 3 during the holiday peak season, putting extreme stress on the technology, people and processes.
