New Meetup: Haybarn Rendezvous, Marquette, IA Aug. 10-22

Announcing a new Meetup for The Minneapolis/St. Paul Backpackers Meetup Group!

What: Haybarn Rendezvous, Marquette, IA Aug. 10-22

When: Friday, August 20,[masked]:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

This is not an official Meetup event, but I will be there and thought I'd post in case anyone else might be interested. It's a weekend filled with music, camping, food, nature, beautiful scenery, hiking and more at The Natural Gait, near Marquette, Iowa: The 9th Annual Haybarn Rendezvous, or "Haybarn Rondy," as it's known. It's my first time going to it and I can't wait!

The location is near Yellow River at a facility for horse training and riding, which also offers beautiful log cabins on blufftop edges, other lodging facilities, camping (although that is filling up), a chance to hike and/or paddle on the river and/or even bring and board your horse. I attended the grand opening of The Natural Gait around 10 years ago. It's wonderful. I will scope out trails for the possibility of holding an official Meetup there, perhaps in the winter.

The band Switchback heads up this event. The two-person duo plays excellent Irish, folk and similar music. I've heard them twice and really look forward to hearing them again. As you'll see in the attachment, other bands and artists also will play.

If you'd like more information, I can share as much as I know. I plan to arrive there Friday in time to hear the "Cave Concert," located in the valley below The Natural Gait, at another facility they own, the Ion Exchange, which raises and sells prairie plants. The concert will be in a rock shelter cave believed to be used for Native American crop storage needs in the past (I visited it once on a Luther College anthropology/archaeology field trip).

MORE INFORMATION - Give me a holler, but here are some links to give info.....
