Mocha Readers August Update

From: Mahogany

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well.  I enjoyed the discussion that we had last Saturday surrounding Toure's Who's Afraid for Post-Blackness.  Thanks for coming out.

There are four more month left in this year and I am planning both book club meeting and social events for the future.

  • Book Club Meeting: We will be reading 32 Candles by Ernessa T. Carter.  Please make note of the fact that the meeting will not be held on the second Saturday of the month, instead it will take place on Saturday, September 15th.  Also, be aware of the fact that the location has changed (for September), we will be meeting at Alaska Coffee Roasting Company.
  • Happy Hour: On Friday, September 28th, I will be hosting Happy Hour at The News Bar & Lounge at 7 pm.  This will be our first group social outing since February.  I believe everyone is old enough to drink but if you aren't (or choose not to), I am sure that The News Bar & Lounge will have something to offer you.

  • Book Club Meeting: The book for October has not been decided yet.  I have set up a poll with three different books to select from.  Descriptions of the books can be found in the message board.  Depending on the outcome of September meeting the location may either be the Alaskan Coffee Roasting Company or Panera Bread.  The date of this meeting is October 13th.
  • Social Event: TBA

  • Book Club Meeting:  The book for the December 8th meeting has not been decided yet.  I have set up a poll with five different books to select from.  Descriptions of the books can be found in the message board.

I would like to once again thank everyone for coming out to the meetings and making them a success.

P.S.  Don't forget to vote for the books for the months of October and December.  Think of it as practice for the election coming up in November.
