About Mojave Underground Utah

Mojave Underground was founded in the fall of 2007 by Stuart Burgess, Mike Capps, and Crystal Burgess. The group was created on the principal of sharing knowledge and experience in the hobbies of abandoned mine exploration, caving, photography, and urban speleology. Growing rapidly since its conception, Mojave Underground is now a full fledged non-profit corporation with over 200 members. Our main website Mojave Underground.com receives over a half million hits every month.

In spite of the negative attitude most media outlets have toward abandoned mine exploration, we have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to be featured in Forbes Magazine, The California Mining Journal, Deseret News and others. Our focus on safety and public education have helped many authorities see historical mine sites in a more positive light.

We have teamed up with many talented individuals and pooled our resources to focus on three key points, education, exploration, and preservation. Through education the general public can learn about the historical and potential recreational opportunities abandoned mine sites, ghost towns, and caves can provide. Our focus on education is enacted upon when people learn about and join our adventures through our Meetup page, our web forum, photo gallery, and location database. We have hosted many entry level events that allow an individual with little experience underground to come and participate in a safe, supervised environment. Multiple times a year we also host more advanced events for those who wish to get into places that are more dangerous. Our preservation efforts are enhanced through service projects, legislative action, and documentation of historical sites.

We would love to have you join us!
