The Hidden Treasure Mine

Mojave Underground is taking our first trip into the Hidden Treasure Mine for 2010. Heavy snows and wet conditions have kept the mine inaccessible until now. This is a great chance to join the Mojave Underground in one of the more well known mines in Utah.

Leaders of Mojave Underground will be accompanying a total of 15 explorers underground for a variety of activities. Areas we'll be visiting range from a basic single level exploration to more advanced incline climbs for rock hounding. This mine does require a fair amount of physical exertion, we require all explorers have previous experience underground and the ability to crawl through a series of small holes and ascend/descend long (2500') steep (45deg) inclines.

Keep in mind that those wishing to rock hound will be descending approximately 2500' in elevation down a 45 degree slope to the lower oxidation zone. Once collecting heavy rock samples, these rocks must be packed back up to the top. It generally takes 45 minutes to an hour to make the ascent back up.

Those without full safety gear will NOT be permitted to enter the mine, no exceptions. A trained individual will be inspecting you for safety gear before entering the mine.

Coveralls are a must for those who wish to remain somewhat clean. The Hidden Treasure Mine is very dirty, and we'll be getting dirty for sure. Knee pads are also recommended for crawling through some areas.

We plan on examining minerals inside the mine, including galena, many copper minerals, including smithsonite, malachite, and azurite. Have a rock hammer? Bring it!
