The Hidden Treasure Mine

Mojave Underground is taking our first trip into the Hidden Treasure Mine for 2010. Heavy snows and wet conditions have kept the mine inaccessible until now. This is a great chance to join the Mojave Underground in one of the more well known mines in Utah.

Leaders of Mojave Underground will be accompanying a total of 15 explorers underground for a variety of activities. Areas we'll be visiting range from a basic single level exploration to more advanced incline climbs for rock hounding. This mine does require a fair amount of physical exertion, we require all explorers have previous experience underground and the ability to crawl through a series of small holes and ascend/descend long (2500') steep (45deg) inclines. Keep in mind that those wishing to rock hound will be descending approximately 2500' in elevation down a 45 degree slope to the lower oxidation zone. Once collecting heavy rock samples, these rocks must be packed back up to the top. It generally takes 45 minutes to an hour to make the ascent back up.

Plan on meeting at 9AM at the old Stockton church parking lot, just east of the new LDS church. - Coordinates to the meeting point are: 40°27'25.49"N 112°21'28.75"W. Parking lot is empty and overgrown with tall grass and a few trees. We will be done by 3pm. Please do not arrive late! Option to carpool up to the mine will be available. Its about a 25 minute drive on rocky dirt roads to the mine from here.

Please brings your own safety gear! - This includes a helmet / hardhat, trustworthy light source, extra batteries, spare water, and a backup light. Those without full safety gear will NOT be permitted to enter the mine, no exceptions. A trained individual will be inspecting you for safety gear before entering the mine.

Coveralls are a must for those who wish to remain somewhat clean. The Hidden Treasure Mine is very dirty, and we'll be getting dirty for sure. Knee pads are also recommended for crawling through some areas.

We plan on examining minerals inside the mine, including galena, many copper minerals, including smithsonite, malachite, and azurite. Have a rock hammer? Bring it! Required Gear:
Helmet with lights
Hiking boots
Extra batteries/lights
First Aid Kit Recommended Gear:
Knee pads
Rock Hammer

We also plan on examining many mine structures within the mine, and will be discussing their use and functions. Expect to help with some light service for the mine owner by taking out trash as we leave the mine. You must be 18 years of age or older in order to participate. This is a trip you do not want to miss out on! Feel free to bring your friends and family and be part of the fun and fastest growing community of abandoned mine explorers in the country!

This was a great adventure. The mine will try to destroy you but if you have enough fire in your belly you can get out. My lantern wasn't so lucky however. I can't remember the last time I had such a great time. Thanks!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
