Good presentation and interesting topic. Wish I hadn't been in a hurry to run off to other stuff - turns out I have connections with M.F. that I didn't know about until later. D'oh!

I have to admit that the idea of manipulating the timing of computer generated responses to contacts so that the viewer thinks it's a human responding is abhorrent to me. Today, I met with a small business client who I had to convince that just having an online form in place of an email address would be a good idea to avoid spam. There is no way that I would tell that client to effectively lie to a client and expect to keep any form of credibility.

Nora: I love the word 'abhorrent'! But I was just telling you what works. By all means, have your customers do whatever you think is less abhorrent!.

Ha, ha, well that word does come across like a ton of bricks, doesn't it. And you treated it with such graciousness. My only point is being careful about what tactics cross over the fence from good customer service to manipulation. As developers we have a lot of opportunity to make something appear to be what it isn't.

The topic will be tools (support platforms, press, accounting) for startups and SMBs, and a little bit about 'crossing the chasm' getting from 100 to 1000 customers. I'll also answer any questions I can about YCombinator.

This is a great networking event. Lots of networking and Michael will have 10 minutes to share the Submittable story and update people on where they're at now.
