Discuss Neo4j and graph databases

Will Lyon and I have been working with Neo4j, a graph database, for awhile now on various projects and we would love to give an intro to anyone who is interested. Graph databases are great for storing and querying interconnected data like social networks, but they are useful for all sorts of data.

We can spend a few minutes talking about our experience with Neo4j, give a brief intro to the query language (called Cypher), and then maybe play around with a server instance and see what people can come up with. We'll have some data ready for everyone to mess around with.

Great meetup! Thanks Will and George. I really like the dataset you put together of bills and sponsors. I got up and running with Neo4j on my computer, added some data, and played around with writing some Cypher. Great intro!

Interesting to reminisce about that very long database query. Now that I think about it, it wasn't actually a database query because it was for a classified ad pricing system in FileMaker Pro, which used flat files, instead of a database. I think the project was for the Sydney Herald in the 90s

Thank you so much for introducing us to a new concept in database! My work day is mostly filled with project management and client needs and not so digging into coding principles. For example, this week I had to convince a client not to confuse the design of Drupal Content Types we had spent months designing, with semantic needs for labels on the front side.
So, your presentation was a real treat in digging up all those database concepts, learned so long ago, and comparing them with new patterns. I appreciate the time and work you put into this Meet Up!

For those that want to participate remotely, we've set up a Google Hangout here: http://goo.gl/b7sIB0

Hey everybody, we're going to try to do a Google Hangout of the meeting, so if you're outside of Missoula, let me know and we'll make sure you get into the Hangout!

I will set up a hangout around 5:45 mountain and put it here (hopefully the Meetup email will go out for that) so everyone can log in.

I hope to bring myself and my developer to this! We were just talking about GraphDB and using it for projects.

Hey everyone, we're going to have to change this to Tuesday, August, 26 at 6:00 PM because Will can't make it on the 28th. Sorry for any inconvenience. Also, if you're a Bozemanite (or from elsewhere in Montana) we can probably get a Google Hangout set up for the meeting so you can participate remote (Workiva has video conferencing gear already set up).

Also, we're going to have swag!

Great! Let us know what days/times work better for you (that goes for everyone). I'm pretty flexible and I'd love to have a good turnout.

Great topic idea! I've played a little with Neo4j, will try to make it over from Bozeman for this!
