Code Retreat (Helena)

December 8th is the Global Day of Code Retreat. We are going to hold a Code Retreat in Helena on that day to participate.

We have not picked a venue yet. Suggestions or volunteers would be appreciated. It would also be nice to have sponsors to provide some food and drinks for lunch.

Edited to add:

This meetup will be very heavy on code. I plan on sticking pretty close to the structure suggested here:

That's 5-6 sessions composed of 45 minutes of pair programming and 15 minutes of retrospective. We might try to get a speaker for lunch and/or after the sessions.

We'll try to provide lunch and breakfast, but that's not for sure yet.

All exercises are done in pairs, so we need at least half of the attendees to bring laptops. Please have the development environment of your choice ready to go. The exercises can easily be done in a web browser with Javascript, if that's your preference or comfort-zone.

Tricky, but mind expanding. Glad we did it. Let's do it again.

You could use the Helena hackerspace "MEH". I'm the founder and I'm sure it would be a free and fun venue if I pitched it to our board. It's at the entrance to the walking mall and it's about 1000sqft. We could put any overflow in the unused next-door offices. Plus we come equipped with four community computers for people who don't have laptops. I've been wanting to coordinate as a permanent venue for Helena MTP for a while. Wacky things keep coming up. We normally have programming Saturdays from 2-6 anyways. The hackerspace has easily held 25 people before. I could see it holding more. Plus the Helena Gaming Club will be meeting in our conference room during that time, so programmers can take breaks on the second floor to enjoy some gaming and check out a third club while they're at it! We also have a cereal bar for 50 cents a bowl :P.

What size venue do we need?

I can't imagine we'll have more than 20 or 30. More realistically we'd have a dozen, once folks realize how code-heavy this event is.
