Code & Coffee: Chef & Vagrant (Helena)

We will be discussing provisioning infrastructure with Chef (solo) and setting up development environments with a combination of Chef and Vagrant.

    Chef is a package and services configuration tool(it manages what programs you have on your machines). It would be particularly useful in teams of at least 4 software engineers. I would probably end up using Chef solo if I had to do some of my own net. admin. for developers that were on non-linux operating systems. It's sleek and easy to maintain.     The video is a year-old, but it only covers the very basics. So it's probably accurate.

    Vagrant looks super promising though. It's a developer environment which can be set up for virtbox. I wonder if it has to be just developer tools... I don't see why it would be limited. Perhaps I could create a video editing setup, a club setup, or a teaching setup using vagrant. This presentation seems exciting. Some of you guys are missing out!
