Bonjour/Hi Everyone!
My name is James. I'm a bilingual teacher who's into lots of things (such as comparative religion, music, spirituality, friends, sunshine, parties, and conspiracy theories). I'm into felines, especially Bengal Tigers, snow leopards, and lynxes. I'm also crazy about wolves, falcons, toucans and sparrows. I live in Le Plateau.
I want to see animals free of suffering and happy. That's why I've initiated (on 6 July 2009) this cooperative of sincere, friendly, like-minded people. We will meet from time to time (sometimes over coffee, sometimes virtually), in groups and/or in subgroups, to share our love for animals, and pools talents, time, and resources to make this group what it can be, and to get things done.
But I am not the leader of this group! There is no leader here! Everyone's important and everyone's welcome. All members of the 'Montréal Animal Rights Activists Group' are 'People for Animal Rights;' friends united harmoniously to alleviate the suffering of animals on the island of Montréal and in wider Québec.
The 'Montréal Animal Right Activists Group' (MARAG) is a platform that represents bilingual and/or unilingual, loosely-organized, broad-based, and interrelated subgroups (including those who prefer to work on their own) who care about Animal Rights and Animal Rescue networking and activism. We will meet from time to time for various activities dependent upon the skills and interests of our membership.
MARAG could: coordinate information about and services given by various like-minded groups; inform, by films and talks, the general public and students about cheap spaying and neutering, animal abuse (like puppy mills), bird and animal rescues, vegetarianism, veganism, etc.; pressure political representatives and business interests to improve animal rights in Montréal and Québec; advise the media; offer translation and tech/computer assistance; organize protests; write letters to and for animal rights prisoners of conscience; help with funding; and get petitions going.
We can lend a hand to well known organizations such as PETA, the ALF Supporters Group, SHACCanada, the SPCA, the SPA, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and sympathetic Meetup groups. For instance, the Montréal Animal Right Activists Group could place volunteers with these and other organizations, as well as with people working on their own. We could also help out with some of their events.
If you want to help our defenseless sisters and brothers, please contact me, and become one of the 'People for Animal Rights'! What we do depends on you and our other members. I look forward to getting to know you, and to introduce you to other animal friends. Let's work together in our different ways to get this group up and running, and saving lives asap! There's no membership fee and we'll be grateful for any help. Thanks.
