Apache Spark: Why should I care?

This will be our first meetup. The hope is to engage with the community and get feedback on what people would like to hear more about in the upcoming events.

We are currently planning on having two presentations:

1] Why Apache Spark matters (using examples running with Apache Spark 1.6 release preview)

• Summary: What are the problems that Apache Spark tackles? Why should you care? What are the problems it's not trying to solve? The goal of this presentation and discussion session would be to help dispel some of the hype and focus on the core ideas and their intent.

2] Spark in Production

• Summary: The highs and lows of running Shopify’s data warehouse on top of Apache Spark.What we’ve learned about running it in production for over two years.

Doors will open at 6pm, presentations will begin at 6:30pm. Make sure you enter through the entrance on RICHARDSON Street. The doors are open until 7pm.
