Whether you're simply looking to meet people to play games or if you want to get involved with our design workshop, at it's core, this group is a resource for Montreal area tabletop game enthusiasts. The main reason we created MtlTGN-RJTMtl was because there was a need for regularly scheduled events that focused more on medium to heavy strategy games and less on the lighter stuff. Since January 2014 we've worked to establish a framework for a better local community by ensuring that at least once a week we host a meetup for tabletop gamers. Offering people of different interests an enjoyable and challenging experience.
"A series of meaningful choices" - Sid Meier on the definition of the word "Game"
Something to think about... Sitting down to play tabletop games is a truly unique experience unlike any other. As a member of a gaming group you'll be sitting at a table with people who will obviously start out as strangers, getting to know them on a completely other level. You'll be planning strategies and problem solving... managing different aspects of the games that get brought to the table. At the same time you'll be trying to outsmart and prevent your opponent from claiming the victory. In some situations you're actually trying to beat the game, working together with the other players as part of a team. The really cool thing about modern tabletop games is that most of the time they will never play out exactly the same way twice. So, you'll have to adjust to what is happening every time you sit at the table to play a particular game.
For some of you the last game you played might have been Monopoly, Scrabble, Life or something of that variety. You'll notice at our events that we play newer games that involve more than rolling dice and moving a token around the board. You won't see anyone drawing tiles engraved with letters from a bag either. The new wave of tabletop game design is truly incredible. Aside from the variety of the themes, which there are a surprising selection of, the actual games themselves are much more involved and interesting. What you need to do to actually progress through a modern tabletop game is so much different from the "classics". Hopefully that doesn't scare you off, because all this talk simply means that there's a lot more you can do... and lots more fun to be had.
To give you a better idea here is a "playlist" that we'll be constantly updating on the BoardGameGeek website:
For some of you being part of an actual gaming group is a new thing. It's a pretty simple concept. We meet in a public place (gaming boutique, cafe, etc.)... some people bring games with them and others don't... and we sit around tables and have fun playing them. We want everyone to feel respected and involved and as such there will be no tolerance for either bad attitudes or bad manners. We are welcoming of anyone that wants to sit at the table with us. Just be ready to listen when the games are being explained and ask questions when you don't understand something.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
