Dear Group Members!
We are pleased to announce the next Semantic Web Munich meetup on tuesday, 10/16/2012, at 6.30 PM in the awesome offices of Google Munich, Dienerstraße 12, 80331 München.
We are delighted to have Prof. Dr. Volker Tresp as invited speaker of the evening. In his presentation, he will tell us about "Querying the Web with Statistical Machine Learning".
Prof. Tresp received a Diploma degree in physics from the University of Göttingen, Germany, in 1984 and M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University, New Haven, CT, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Since 1989 he is the head of a research team in machine learning at Siemens Corporate Research & Technologies. In 1994 he was a visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Biological and Computational Learning. Each summer he gives a lecture on machine learning and data mining (since 2003). In his projects he collaborates with both the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, LMU) and the Technical University Munich (Technische Universität München, TUM). Since 2011 he is a Professor at the LMU. He is the first honorary professor in the Department for Informatics at the LMU.
In addition to the main talk, we are going to have have lightning talks for the first time. Every member of the group is very welcome to give a *no more than* 5 mins quick overview (optionally supported by no more than 1 slide) of semantic web projects he(she) is currently working on.
If you would like to participate in the lightning talk, feel free to send us a title or short description of your topic (and your 1 slide if you would like to use one) and we will add it to final agenda to be circulated prior to the event. Nonetheless, spontaneous ideas on the day are also welcome during the lightning talk session.
Again, kudos go out to Googler Christian Brumm for making this possible.
We now have room for 50, so be fast with your reservation. Some places will also be allocated through Xing.
