Mount LUKENS is a mountain located in the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains. The peak stands in the northeast corner of the city of Los Angeles making it the highest elevation within the LA city limits while entering through Tujunga and making it part of the Los Angeles National Forest. We will start off at a wide trail which eventually turns into a single line trail and hike up about 6.5 miles. We will travel through a almost hidden creek, plenty of regrowth since the 2009 wildfire, such as willows, oaks and sycamores. There are beautiful precious stones and rocks on the ground and some boulders attached to the mountains. Some trees coming out of the rocks on the side of the mountains. At the summit we come to various TV, radio, and cellular transmission towers. The views of San Fernando valley and Catalina Island are Amazing . While other trails get over crowded this place is a peaceful gem and less traveled. The weather can change unpredictable because of its high elevation. We will head back the same way after eating and taking some fun pictures.
PARKING- residential area , there is a small parking rugged area will fit a few cars. Carpool is recommended.
