Overnight Backpack to Henninger Flats. 3 miles, 1400' gain.

Details
This is a great trip for new people to try out gear and just get a feel for backpacking without feeling intimidated. It's also a fun trip for the more experienced. The hike to the camp is 3 miles with a 1400' elevation gain. Henninger Flats overlooks the LA basin and in clear weather the view is fantastic. For those that want to do a dayhike after setting up camp there are a couple of options but we usually just hang out at camp. There is NO RUNNING WATER AT CAMP at this time so you will need to carry any water you will need.
We will probably camp at the upper campground so if you plan on coming in later just go to the office and ask where My Hiking Club is camping. There is a museum at the top and a soda machine so bring your quarters.
The hike up is straight up a dirt fire road and is completely exposed so even when the weather is cool, it can be quite warm on the hike up.
Dog friendly trip for friendly dogs.
Street parking available near the trail entrance--but pay close attention to the parking signs and restrictions.
The trail head is on Pinecrest Dr. north of the intersection of Pinecrest Dr. and Crescent Dr. in Altadena.
Bear canisters are not required but be prepared to bear bag if you aren't bringing one. We usually head down around 8:00-9:00 am the following morning.
RAIN CANCELS so please check back on meetup Friday evening. If you have any questions please call me at 909-285-8649
