Mother Nature has left us some snow from the recent storm. Some sections of the trail may still has hard snow or ice left over. Trekking Poles and Microspike or crampon is mandatory for this hike.
Description: We begin our trek up the Icehouse Canyon trail. On the first 2 miles, the trail will travel alongside the creek and several rustic lodges. Shortly pass the 2 miles marker, the trail will start to ascent steep upward through manly switchbacks. At Chapmen Trail Junction, there is a sign pointing to varies directions. We will continue upward for another .6 miles before reaching the Icehouse Saddle (7580’). We will take a quick break to regroup and refuel
and re-hydrate. After a short break, the trail proceed north for another 0.9 miles toward the summit of Timber Mountain (8303’) toward the summit. Once at the peak, we will break 15 minutes for lunch/snack, while soaking in the views. We will return on the same route back to where we start.
Requirement: Winter clothing, hiking poles, Micro spike.
Recommendation: At least 3 liters of water/electrolytes, snack/lunch, winter layer, Glove, hiking boots, trekking poles, Micro spikes.
This hike is crossed post with another group. I will be the hike leader for both groups.
Direction: From 210 Freeway, exit Baseline Road. Head west on Baseline. Turn right on Pandua Road and drive 2 miles to Mt Badly Road. Continue on Badly Road until you reach Icehouse canyon parking lots. A National Forest Adventure Pass (http://www.simpsoncity.com/hiking/adventurepass.html) is required for parking. The parking lot can get full on weekends. If the parking lot is full, you can park alongside the road. Pay close attention to the posted signs.
