We will actually start at 6:10pm - YES! There's a 10 minute grace period.
Stats:
~ 6 miles RT
~ 1600 gain
~ 2-3 hours
~ Intermediate - group paced with a push.
We will do this hike as a clockwise loop. About 10 minutes into the hike, the trail forks, Beaudry South (left) and Beaudry North (right). Beaudry North is considered the beginners' trail because of all the switch-backs, however, we will take the intermediate-level path, Beaudry South, to Tongva Peak. It's a gradual uphill climb ALL THE WAY! As we near the top, we will get off the fire road and take a little-known, but very scenic trail the rest of the way.
There is a bench and plaque at the peak where will with take in the views, rest and refuel (10-15 minutes) before starting the descend back to our cars along Beaudry North.
For those unfamiliar with this trail, keep your eyes to the right of the trail on the descend so that you won't miss the right turn where the trail splits. Otherwise, you will find yourself heading off somewhere into the Verdugo Mts.
What to bring:
Headlamps, water, poles, etc.
