Native Herp Trip: Sycamore Canyon Preserve
Limit: 15 people (11 spots remain)
Cost: $25/person

Sycamore Canyon Preserve consists of 2,272 acres of coastal sage scrub and chaparral-covered hills with abundant native wildlife and sweeping vistas.

Meet at the Porto Vista Hotel at 8:15am. We will be leaving from the Porto Vista Hotel around 8:30 AM and heading to the preserve, stopping at a market on the way so people can purchase food items for lunch. Moderate hiking for approximately 3 hrs and rattlesnakes may be present. We should return to the hotel between 2 and 3 PM.

This event is SPONSORED by MICROCOSM and all fees will be paid to them directly. Instructions for payment will be provided once you are confirmed.

I realize that this is a Friday daytime trip - I hope you will be able to join us.

A good day of herping, especially so early in the season! We spotted: coastal horned lizard, speckled rattlesnake, southern pacific rattler, garden slender salamander; western fence lizards and side-blotched lizards; granite night lizard (quite the find!) and a granite spiny lizard from afar. On the invert side we spotted: black vine weevil, Jerusalem Cricket, darkling beetles, earwigs and field crickets, little bear beetle (Paracotalpa ursina), Indian stick insect (Carausius morosus) an invasive species, and a few other so far unidentified beetles and bugs. Exciting day for an early season hike!

We saw many reptiles and anthropoids. It was a lot of fun. Can't wait to do it again.

I have never hiked this trail. It will be fun, I am sure. Will see you all there. Yes I have found herps in Mission Trails and another near Bob Applegate's residence.

Have you found herps in the past on this trail/similar trails?

I RSVP'd but it didn't ask how many people. It will be both my husband and myself. Looking forward to seeing some wildlife.
