NASA Space Apps Pasadena: to the stars with the Carnegie Observatories

Details

We're excited to announce that our second NASA Space Apps Pasadena pre-event meetup will take place at the historic main offices of the Carnegie Observatories. The original 1912 office building still stands, and was recently restored to its previous early elegance. A newer building (also cool), added in 1994, contains a lecture hall, conference room, machine shop, and electronics and instrumentation labs.

These buildings, tucked quietly into an unassuming Pasadena neighborhood, were once home to famed astronomer Edwin Hubble and have played a key role in astronomy for more than a century. The famous British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking wrote in his book A Brief History of Time that Hubble's "discovery that the Universe is expanding was one of the great intellectual revolutions of the 20th century." That discovery was made in these very buildings!

During this meetup we will learn about the past, present and future of the Carnegie Observatories. We will also dive deeper into the NASA challenges, learn more about the tools that our sponsors are generously making available to teams, and hear from mentors at JPL who can assist with your work.
