Cranksgiving is an annual bicycle foodraiser in Nashville, Tennessee that will benefit Community Food Advocates, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the root causes of hunger and poverty by ensuring that everyone has access to healthy, affordable food from a just and sustainable food system.
Cyclists will congregate at Halcyon Bike Shop at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 23 before riding to three local grocery stores to purchase food to donate to CFA. A list of acceptable items for donation will be on hand at the event, as well as route maps. The stores to be visited are the turnip trucks east and west and the downtown HG hills.
Two groups will leave from Halcyon: the "Nashville Slow Ride Short Haul" is a leisurely paced ride for all skill levels along this proposed route: http://goo.gl/maps/khOab. A Walk/Bike Nashville SAG vehicle will be present at each Grocery to collect donated food from riders and provide mechanical assistance as needed for Short Haul riders.
The "Music City Cycling Long Haul" is a competitive checkpoint style ride where participants earn points for visiting the most stores, bringing back the heaviest haul, as well as shortest overall time, and possibly other categories to be identified by organizers. Prizes may be available for top point earners.
Participants of both the short and long haul are invited to a hot cocoa rest stop at Eastside Cycles during the ride as well as post ride socializing at Halcyon Bike Shop at about 1 pm.
Participants will be asked to save their receipts so that we can tally up the impact of our collected items.
