Stones River National Battlefield will present ranger guided bicycle tours of Stones River National Battlefield on Saturdays from April 7, 2012 through October 27, 2012 at 9 AM. Get healthy exercise, reduce your carbon footprint, and learn about the major Civil War battle that occurred here in late 1862 and early 1863. This program will take visitors through the battlefield using the tour road and the Stones River Greenway. The tour is limited to 15 participants per program.

At several points during the ride, the ranger will stop to discuss the lives of the soldiers and actions that affected the outcome of the Battle of Stones River. Some of the stories included are the fighting in the Slaughter Pen, the desperate stand of the Union army along Nashville Pike, and the terrible climax to the battle that bloodied the banks of Stones River.

Participants will meet at the visitor center at 8:45 AM with their bikes. Children, ages 16 and under must wear safety helmets, and all other participants are encouraged to wear them as well. The tour will begin at 9 AM. The ride will travel up to five miles and last 60 to 90 minutes.

This program is free and part of a series of interpretive programs offered at the battlefield during the year. The new entrance to Stones River National Battlefield is at 1563 N. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. Additional information is available at the visitor center, by calling (615)[masked] or at the park website

Very easy ride, all on paved surfaces except for walking a short bit to the "Slaughter Pen". (ooh! watch out!!) Family friendly if you can handle the battle stories. My +1 was 11 yrs old and he had a blast. The tour guide was great, full of stories and info. At the end of the tour you can ride on and enjoy the greenways (which are spoken very highly of) or head on back to the visitor center, which by the way, was impressive - great exhibits, a film, gift shop and all of it so clean your grandma would be proud. the tour is every sat through october, so get out there!

Few sprinkles...not sure what it will do. I will not be attending the ride due to unforeseen absences of other employees. Don't let that stop you though. Another ranger will be guiding the tour today...and he is pretty awesome.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
