Video for Nonprofits

  • May 21, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • UNC-TV

Whether you’re making a fundraising video or a video for your website, you have a story to tell. And with most people turning to the web for their news, information and entertainment needs, great video content is key to getting your message out. So how can you make the most of it?

The web loves comedy, brevity and surprise. It also thrives on originality, featuring stories that are often counter-intuitive.

We'll use the winners of the 2014 DoGooder Video Awards as samples and look at the essential elements of storytelling. Participants will learn about specific approaches to capturing the emotional, human angle of their story, and how to inspire and engage their audience with a call to action.

You'll walk away with a question sheet to help you with your next video project.

Pizza (sponsored by NTEN & PINInc/RTPNet) and discussion starting at 6:30, program at 7:00.

Many thanks to UNC-TV for being our host for this meeting. If you arrive late and can't get in, call our host, James McGurk, cell phone[masked]-8873. It's hard to see the front door from the meeting room.

We look forward to seeing you there!

I certainly enjoyed my first NCT4G Meetup...an interesting topic, lots of good conversation, and good networking, too! The pizza was an added bonus! :-)

Great to share video making experiences. It would have been extra special if we had gathered some locally produced samples in advance.

Absolutely! Maybe those in the group can share some examples via the meetup discussion or on facebook.com/nctech4good. Would love to see them.

Thanks to the many experienced folk who shared their experience, opportunities for training and the questions that must be asked as someone considers video creation with its labor, equipment, and time. Much like a training program it seems you have to really focus on your objectives and decide if this is the best "format" to plan your message, considering the alternatives available.

Marge, I saw your comment as I was leaving for the meeting so I grabbed the Flip camera. I'll see what I can do with the recording.
