Rocky River Easy to Moderate Nature Center Sunday Hike

Distance: 5  miles

Rating: Since it is Sunday and we have more time, we'll cover longer trails.

Depending on the weather we may even go up the 134 steps staircase.    You'll see some great rock formations and views and many different kinds of plants and animals.

Come join us for easy to moderate hike on the beautiful trails located behind the Rocky River Nature Center, and beyond.

Not an extreme hike, but we'll have some challenging, with steep hills and little creek crossing, lots of fun.

Directions: From I-480W take exit for Clague Rd.; South on Clague; right on Mastick Rd.; left on Shepard's Hill Lane downhill into Rocky River Reservation; parking lot will be on the right just before Shepard's Hill Lane meets Valley Parkway. We will meet in front of the Nature Center.

Dogs: Leashed dogs are welcome

Kids: NOT Stroller friendly, older kids welcome

This hike will be led by Rosa, she can be contacted at[masked] or Mason

Dawn, I think there might be an easier hike in Brecksville on Friday nights. I am going to try it out and will let you know how it goes. I am sure there is a hike path out there for us. We just have to find it.

I think it might be. The hill you go up is pretty steep. You could go and not finish the whole hike or walk a different path if it gets to challenging.

Thanks for the warning about the hill. I am going to rest up now.

Hi Maureen, I saw your comment about having 2 Sunday hikes - one for more beginners (can't find the post tho) and I'd DEFINITELY be will to go on the beginner hikes! Even if they're 5 miles. I'm trying a few 5 mile hikes with the Cleve Hiking Club. Up to now I've only done 3 mile leisure hikes but this month I wanted to try and get up to the 5 mile hikes. Steep hills and steps are hard on my hips.

I wish I would have read the part about suicide hill and the possible 134 steps part!!! My hips are KILLING me and I fell going back down the Lewis Ring hill - not too bad, just skinned up my palm and my arm a bit. And the jungle part of the hike YIKES!! Even wore out my dog!! I think I'll pass on these in the future - sorry guys - but was nice meeting everyone!!! Just wish the hikes weren't so strenuous as I have fibromyalgia and also arthritis in my joints. Just a bit too much for me. Maybe I'll suggest my own hike that's a shorter more flat hike for people like me that can't do the more strenuous stuff - or maybe I'll start a west side leisure dog walk! At least I can say I tried!! But I may still join in some other stuff in the future!!

Kids and I had blast and it was so great to get out and enjoy nature for a bit. Thanks for tolerating my little guy and being so nice to my family.

Do you think it'd be too much for a 6 yr old little boy?
