York River Paddle

This event open to sea kayaks and rec kayaks 10ft and above Come join us for a leisurely paddle up the lazy York River from York Harbor up to Scotland Bridge approx. 9 miles round trip. High Tide is approx. 12:40 so we'll ride the Flood in and return on the Ebb. Parking along the road at the Town dock is limited but you can park across the Bridge at the wiggly bridge lot. We'll stop for a snack along the route and maybe swim at Scotland Bridge if it's nice. Pack a snack/lunch as well as water. After the paddle we'll stop somewhere for dinner so bring money if you plan to join us.

Tides at York Harbor: High - 12:40 pm / Low - 6:24pm

PFD's (Life Jackets) are required when paddling with this group

To late, just found out this morning I made the list

Neil-the risk factors on the York river are fairly low. Even so 25 is a large group and should be divided into a couple of pods so that the organizers can keep track of a smaller group. If you think that idea has merit, here's another: invite the wait list folks to join a third pod. Each pod could launch with 10 minutes separation among themselves. Seems a shame to exclude paddlers on the wait list when 25 is not exactly a safe option without division.

Hi Gene, thanks for your input & concern. There are at least 4 organizers from NESP attending. Most have VHF radios and use them when needed to notify other organizers. 25 as the limit was chosen due to parking limitations and having more than 25 attend would make the parking situation worse. As far as pods that happens by default as people tend to group together based on ability level and speed they like to paddle. We typically have one or more organizers at different locations within the group front, middle and rear.

I've got too much to do to prepare for next weekend's trip
to Boothbay so unfortunately I need to
drop out and let someone else attend. There are other assistant organizers on this event who I'm sure will do a great job coordinating the kayaking on the York.

Hi Arlene, I have a Hullavator system and it works great on my SUV, it makes for very easy load and unloading.

I was notified by email this a.m. that I was confirmed. It's a shame that people cancel the day prior to, or at the last minute - it's one of my favorite paddles, but I've made alternative plans.

would love to go but haven't purchased my sea kayak yet...
I've run into a slight problem. My CR-V's antenna is smack in the middle of my roof width wise (above the hatch.) No roof racks yet but am researching. i was hoping to purchase a thule system to load my kayak (when I buy it) like Kathryn's of NSPN, right in the center. Honda says they can't relocate the antenna. I need max ease to load it alone, not necessarily the side mounted hydrolic system (have heard so negative comments by other small women.) Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

But she'll need to load the boat on her car at home! :)

Details, details......But hey Susan, you do make a point there. So never mind Arlene, no value added from me. Good luck with your research, and please keep us informed of your findings.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
