Topic: The Art of Printing

Speaker: George Emmons (Professional Photographer and Group Member)

Description:

Printing is a conversation among the user, screen, computer and paper. How well these components work together will dictate the quality of your print. This class will be your guide to better printing.

Areas of Printing we will cover;
1. What do you know about printing?
2. Why should I calibrate my screen? How do I do it and what do I use?
3. Why doesn't the color on my screen print correctly?
4. What are printer profiles?
5. Does the paper I use make a difference?
I'll be bringing samples and other interesting guides and examples of what you need to know to create great prints.

    A few tips from our Meetup on Printing!
    1. Download the appropriate printer profile for the type of paper you are using and the printer you have from the paper's website.
    2. Calibrate your screen every two weeks.
    3. I you haven't printed in a few days, use the printer's utility to clean the nozzles in the printer.
    4. Buy good paper! Illford Gallery, Moab or photographic garages of Epson. In the long run they are less expensive and more beautiful than the bargain papers.
    5. Purchase a printer that has more than two to three cartridges of ink, you will get better images.
    6. Care for every image you print like it is the only print you will make. It will save you time, money and frustration.
