With the introduction of the digital camera, the interest in photography has literally exploded. Millions are enjoying the wonders of photography like never before. And, as a result, many are taking photography more seriously as an art form. But where do you go to improve your skills and get more from your photography?
This Meetup group is for the photography enthusiast; photographers of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to expert, from amateur to professional. Whether you just bought your first digital camera, or you've been in the photography profession for many years, you are welcome here. Our group is not only a photography club in the traditional sense, but a social outlet for people here in the surrounding area who are interested in getting together to meet, have fun, and share their enjoyment of photography.
Our Meetup is meant to get you out shooting, discussing, and sharing. We want to help everyone flex their creative muscles with our:
Meetings - Share photos, discuss photography topics, and plan upcoming events
Photowalks - Practice your photography skills at various locations and events in and around our beautiful region
Museum and gallery outings - Visits to photography exhibits, galleries, museums, etc.
Classes- Workshops for beginners, photo editing, and many other topics.
Photo Galleries - Community galleries where you can display your latest works from our Meetups, monthly assignments, and classes.
Photo Critique Forum - Share and learn hints and tips on improving your photographs.
Contests - 4 times a year we submit 6 photos to the Photographic Society of America open digital worldwide contest. Look for details as a meetup posted at the beginning of September, November, January and March. (coming in the future)
RSVP Policy and Rationale
Organizers need to have an accurate headcount to plan, reserve, or get permission at venues.
As an active and valued member, it is important to keep your RSVP up to date.
*For events that are space-limited, a no-show member prevents another interested member on the waiting list from attending.
*Organizers book a room for the amount of people that say are attending.
*Organizers wait at events for all signed up members to arrive before starting or moving the next location if we are outside.
A 'No Show' is a member who consistently does not show up to a meetup they said they were going to and does not change their RSVP to NO. Doing this 3 times or more will result in their name will be taken off of a meetup that is full with a waiting list. Someone that consistently cancels 48 hours or less before a meetup is considered a no show, EVEN if there is not a waiting list. That member is either too busy, or otherwise not reliable, so we can't keep a space open for them on full events.
Organizers need head counts for many reasons, so if you sign up for something please plan on attending, or on taking your name off the list at least 2 days before the event. If you are sick at the last minute, send an email to 'Contact' small white envelope link on left side of our home page.
When needed, Organizers will send last-minute updates and contact info only to those who RSVP "Yes" to limit the number of unnecessary emails to members who are not attending.
Some meetups will be announced by email to you when they are newly posted, but not all of them. All meetups are posted onto our calendar and unless you visit the website you will not know about them. As some fill up quickly, please check our website under 'Upcoming Meetups', or the 'Our Calendar' link regularly to avoid disappointment. No need to RSVP 'No' if you are not attending, 'Yes' (when you can) is good, and please change a Yes to a No if your plans change. Some meetups will send out a notice a week before it happens, even though it filled up.
To make any changes to your account, including email settings, profile photo, name, etc, go to "ACCOUNT" at the top of the home page above our banner. You may also edit the type of emails you receive at the bottom of any email that comes from this meetup.
Call for Volunteers
This Photography Meetup group is an all-volunteer effort. Please email any of the organizers if you are interested in helping with any of the following, either on a one-time or an ongoing basis:
Organizing a photowalk, gallery visit, or general meetup/outing
Leading a mini-workshop or discussion for members on a particular topic
Suggesting ideas for future events, venues, and/or future improvements
I am not always around and am hoping people will step up to schedule and lead events for our group. Our Assistant organizers keep our club running! You can become a one time Event Host any time there is an outing or place you would like to take us to. If 24 people each schedule a meetup once a year, we'll have even more fun things to attend.
An optional donation of One Dollar ($1) is charged for each photo event that someone remembers to collect money for. This very nominal fee is our way of keeping our Meet Up group running without having to impose a membership fee. The money you pay goes into a pool to pay for the annual fee charged by Meetup for our group site and membership fees in Photography associations. We appreciate your donations.
Learn by Sharing - Our mission: "To help one another develop and fine tune our photographic skills, while establishing and growing a global community of photographers." We focus on both the art and science of photography through our photography outings and classes, as well as through the exchange of information on our meetup site.
Monthly Assignments - Challenge your skills with our monthly photo assignments. Following a theme or testing a skill is a great way to improve your photography.
Requirements to Join
Our active club is for people wanting to be part of a photography club, who like people and want to broaden their horizons.
Please write one or two sentences about yourself and your interest in photography. Share with us your experience in photography (novice, intermediate, expert etc.) and what you might hope to gain from joining the Meetup.
**Post a recent passport style picture of yourself, this is a requirement of joining. A full face photo helps us recognize each other so much better. Use the name you would like to be called when people meet you. If your legal name is Robert, but you prefer to be called Bob, please use Bob when you sign up, with a last name. Your last name, or set of initials, can be made up, but if you make some new friends it could be awkward. Being a friendly group we want to identify you. We have too many Bobs, Nancys and Lindas without last names :-) All applications are subject to the approval of the organizers. Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself to us!
This meetup group is perfect for anyone with a digital camera who enjoys photography, or who wants to get into digital photography. For newcomers to photography and novices, you will take your skills to a higher level and have fun doing it! And for seasoned photographers, our photo outings offer a chance to catch that next award-winning photo, or help other photographers by sharing your knowledge and experience!
And remember, membership has always been, and will always be totally free and open to everyone. There is no obligation of any kind to become a member of our Meetup group.
Thank you for visiting our Photography Meetup site. We hope you will join us today!!
Once you are a member you will have access to the details of our meetups, our members' online websites, photo albums and members' names.
New members must be approved by the Organizer

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
