I tend to read a lot of science fiction and fantasy novels (I also write SF short stories), but I've also been getting into cultural/historical novels lately, especially novels about Asia and the Middle East and I will read just about anything if it catches my fancy. My favorite SF/F authors include Peter Hamilton, Ursula K LeGuin, CS Friedman, and many others.
A book discussion group provides insights into a story that I might not have gotten otherwise- the varied perspectives of group members lets different people notice different things about the story and adds a lot of depth. It also helps turn an essentially solitary experience (reading a book) into a more social one (sharing your impressions with others), which is fun in and of itself.

I just moved back to New Orleans after living in Beijing, China for 4 years. I love reading and discussing interesting books as well as engaging in interesting, intelligent conversation in general.
great group- wonderful intelligent people who give great insights about the books we read
