Finding the Roads to Rome: Taking the Mystery Out of Patent Searching
Continuing in the Inventor’s Group’s recent series of empowering inventors to make informed decisions, March’s meeting will have an interactive workshop on the patent search process.
We will be doing Live Searches on a Projected Video screen so the entire room can see and get involved in the actual ins and outs of how to do a search. We won't just be talking about it...we'll be doing it. Using a specific search strategy, Camille Wilson and Fernando Dutra from Chimeric Innovation Law, PLLC will demonstrate the process through illustrative example. They will also provide tips and material so that you can accomplish the same on your own with your personal innovations. The search strategy is mapped out below:
-
Do as the Romans Do: The Search Before the Search
-
Your Map to Rome: Creating a Word Chart
-
Your Chariots Await: Patent Search Engines
-
The Keys to Rome: Following Reference Trails of Notable Prior Art
-
Rome wasn’t Built in a Day: Search, Research, Repeat
-
Building the Colosseum Stone by Stone: Building Out Your Innovation Arena
-
When in Rome: Keeping a Reference Inventory
The goal of the workshop is to eliminate the mystique behind searching so that an inventor can feel comfortable navigating the world of prior art. A thorough and precise search can help inventors develop a better understanding of their industry and potential market, hopefully allowing them to develop and strengthen their innovations based on their findings. Moreover, an inventor can make a more informed decision about whether to pursue patent protection before contacting a patent attorney.
Camille is a patent attorney in Jacksonville. Camille worked with a team in the Research & Development department at Vistakon.
Fernando is an attorney licensed to practice in Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. His background in litigation gives him a unique perspective for intellectual property.
There is no cost to attend, however since River City Brewery does not charge us for the room, they do require that ALL in attendance purchase lunch.
Cheers on Inventing/Innovating
