Welcome NW Alabama Backgammon Players!!

I have recently moved to the Florence Alabama area. I used to run the Nashville Backgammon Club and I have started a new Club in Alabama.

This is the first Sanctioned Backgammon Club in the entire State of Alabama!!!

This group is for players at all levels. From Beginner to Master Level. I will be happy to teach the game to someone wanting to learn, give lessons to beginners and am experienced at managing multiple player tournaments.

I must say that the response and the turn out has been far better than I had ever anticipated for a smaller area like this. Right now the overall play level is Beginner to Intermediate level. The members so far are some of the friendliest I have ever played with. Each week you see the skills improve and I am confident that as the "word gets out" and current players improve, we will have a very competitive group soon! I know there must be some Advanced and Master Players around too!

I have a good place to meet and will not allow jerks to participate.

Demos' Restaurant is a non smoking facility. You can smoke outside on the porch. If you like, you can certainly eat dinner or appetizers while you play. They have alcoholic beverages if you like.

There is no obligation to buy a meal whatsoever and soft drinks are FREE while you are playing or watching....you should tip the server occasionally for bringing them though!

This game is meant to be fun and a relaxing way to spend an evening. Although a tough close match can really get your heart and pulse racing!

Long term vision is to play the Nashville Club on a regular basis and the Northside Atlanta Club on an occasional basis and possibly field our own group of players to compete at the National Professional level.

Casual play and "warm up" games can start at 5:00

I will be available for lessons at 5:00.
The tournament will start at 6:30
You can play in the tournament for free or you can pay a $5.00 entry fee.
If you play for free then you cannot win prize money.
60% to the winner
20% to runner up
10% to the consolation winner
10% to the club
There will also be an optional $10.00 side pool that pays 100% to the one that goes the furthest in the tournament.
The 10% Club rake will be used to cover club expenses and the remainder will be used as prize money for a semi-annual or annual extra tournament.
The format may be standard tournament bracket or round robin depending on attendance.
Buy backs may be allowed but I will determine that at the time.
You are guaranteed to play at least 2 matches. Mainflight and Consolation
There will be master points tallied for all matches. (The details on this will come soon)
Mainflight matches will be 5 points and consolation matches will be 3 points
