Tired of being presumed guilty because you're a man? Tired of the presumption that women are victims and cannot possibly be victimizers? Tired of witnessing or being victimized by women's abuses of their privilege? Tired of watching movies that valorize women who bully men, who villify them, who slap them? Tired of flirtatious women's sense of entitlement to your chivalrous attention?
This group is for men who want to raise awareness of those aspects of our country's gender double standard that confer on women highly abusable powers over men. For decades, we have been hearing from feminists about the structural oppression of women, and we affirm the validity of those complaints. What we cannot tolerate, however, is the shaming and intimidation of men who want to put on the table *all* aspects of the gender double standard, especially those that are misandrist and heterosexist. If you would like to advocate for men on a national level as well, consider joining the National Coalition for Men (ncfm.org).
We stress that the double standard varies by country, and that in many countries it works to oppress women in ways that are unacceptable and sometimes barbaric. We condemn this too, and we encourage membership in such organizations as Equality Now (www.equalitynow.org). Nothing accredits our cause like sympathy for victims who are gendered differently, and the website just mentioned shows that they suffer in great numbers, particularly in parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Please consider helping groups and NGOs that strive to protect girls and women around the world.
We hope to found analogous groups whose mission is to protect boys and men from the structural misandry that has plagued us for a long time now. For an introduction to this aggressively denied form of gender discrimination, please see David Benatar's "The Second Sexism".
Remember that this group cannot succeed without your active participation. So please do not hesitate to suggest a meetup or other activity.
