Weekly Rockefeller Hike - Post hike outdoor dining @ Moonriver's roof patio

Rockefeller Preserve

Beginner Terrain • Intermediate (Fast) Pace

"At Pocantico Hills...where the fine views invite the soul...I have spent many delightful hours, studying the beautiful views, the trees and fine landscape effects of that very interesting section of the Hudson River..." Mr. John D. Rockefeller, Sr. Random Reminiscences - 1908 (Photo, Tiffany Black)

Contact: Feel free to post a question to the site or send me an email.  You may also call me:

Diner: I need to know if you are going out to eat at the start of the hike. We have to call in a reservation before the hike.

Terrain: Easy to moderate carriage trails on rolling hills.

Distance/Time Options:  After, 1  1/4 hrs group often splits into 2 groups (Weather often plays a big part on how the group splits up.):

1  1/2hr/4+ mile earlier out group

2 hr/5-6 mile longer option group.

Both groups eat together.

Pace: Moderate to brisk. Although this is a beginner hike, and nobody gets left behind, we walk at a very brisk pace! Please assess your ability to keep this pace before signing up.

Meeting location: We will meet at the the MAIN Parking lot for the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

The Parking lot is located on the south side of Route 117 approximately halfway between Route 9A to the East and Route 9 to the West. There are gates and stone walls at the entrance, a large horse-trailer parking lot, a little toll booth, a visitors center and a bathroom building.

Meet on the benches near the restroom.

Latitude:[masked] Longitude: [masked]

GPS Address: 125 Phelps Way, Pleasantville, NY  10570

Cancellation notices: I will cancel by 3:00pm if the weather looks dicey or if the hiking conditions are not great.

If your plans change, please be sure to change your RSVP to NO on the hike page. Leaving a comment won't free up a spot on the list. Thanks!

Pets: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome. The park requires dogs to be leashed at all times.  It is possible that we will encounter one or more horses with riders or carriages.

I may have broken a wet t-shirt record. It was hot, it was humid - but we trucked through @3.1+ avg. mph for 5.6+ miles. We learned, late in the day means the Stone Barns bathrooms are locked and we saw some wildlife along the lake that we probably not had seen earlier in the day. Good people to power walk with.

Still trying to find a chance to get back to the group, but the World Cup won out today! Proud of the USA, but they still have to improve

Was looking forward to seeing you guys. My doctor told me no exercise for a week due to an infection on my toe. When I start feeling invincible something always happens. Hope to be back next week.
