I haven't camped since middle school, but have looked forward to getting back into it while hiking, mtn. biking, etc. with familiar and new faces. I enjoy pushing myself physically as a weekend warrior, but I'm not of the more 'militant' mindset of other groups we have come across. That whole 'crack of dawn, 3+ peaks @12 miles and a blown-out knee' is not really my thing, though I still consider myself a weekend warrior by all means..
Greenwood and Ringwood Lake, NJ locally for mountain biking, and Cunningham Park and Forest Park in Queens for local mtn biking trails. For the weekend, Giant Ledge, Panther Mountain and Slide Mountain in the Catskills are superior. Algonquin/Iroquois, Big Slide/The Brothers & Mt. Marcy in the Adirondacks are also superior.
In Sept. 2012 we rented a van and car-camped at the LOJ lodge at Heart Lake in Adirondacks..best time of year, tight group of people plus a few new faces! That followed up by the Bright Angel/South Kaibab trail hike into the Grand Canyon in November rounded out the year.. these are two outings I recommend any beginner/intermediate hiker take - next up for me is the Inca Trail and hopefully the Pacific Northwest.
Biking, zip lining, rock climbing, casual beer/wine tastings, folk concerts or outdoor music festivals
Yes, especially local/city outings involving mountain biking.
Keen on joining a low-key group at advanced beginner to intermediate in terms of mountaineering ability and overall pace; especially looking forward to getting into a seasonal rhythm for camping & day trips upstate.
World-class Meetup group.. other tristate meetupsters should be so fortunate. The turnout is the most down to earth, friendly and easy going. Amy is a fun-loving and generous organizer and hostess.
