Workshop Description

• The workshop will serve as an introduction to financial modeling through the perspective of an energy efficiency retrofit project.

• The workshop will enable Sustainability Professional to consider the perspective of the investor when evaluating an efficiency retrofit.

• Topics will include modeling best practices, key Excel skills and functions, basic income statement accounting, lease rules, applying rebates and tax credits, basic debt structuring and leverage, and calculating investor returns on equity.

• A PC with Microsoft Excel are required (Windows is highly recommended), and an Excel model will be circulated in advance of the course which will be the focus of the class.

Mr. Whitcomb is an Analyst at Aldwych Capital Partners, where he helps lead deal execution and modeling on project finance and valuation for renewable and conventional power, oil and gas, industrial and agro/forestry companies in Latin America and Africa.

He was previously an intern at Xzerta Energy Group, a solar-focused investment company. Mr. Whitcomb was a fellow at Envirolution’s Win-Win energy efficiency and MFBA program.

He has also worked on tidal power development in Canada for Halcyon Tidal Power, community solar research in Scotland for Scene Consulting, and biomass supply chain sustainability policy for RWE in Germany.

Mr. Whitcomb holds an MA in Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
