Bringing together IT professionals around New York area working in the IT sector, Turquoise NYC IT Group celebrated it's first anniversary of establishment.
Basar Sen, Deputy Consul General in New York and Sonya Chada, technical recruiter at the New York Times Newspaper, attended the celebration ceremony.
Deputy Consul General Basar Sen, gave a speech at the celebration where the NYC IT Group's first birthday cake had been cut, and stressed that they wish the Turkish community in New York to be organized and that they want to provide consular support in this regard.
Sen in the continuity of his speech said, "in a city such as New York, networking is very important. I am celebrating New York City Turquoise IT group's first anniversary. I wish to celebrate the Group's 20th and 25th anniversary someday, and wish you seeing it as retired people.
Representing Meetup companies Linda Paul attended the celebration and handed a meetup.com marked red T-shirt as a gift to the group's organizer Jay Fethi Sonmez as an anniversary remembrance.
At the event of NYC IT Turquoise Group's first anniversary, a panel was held that was joined by four experts of human resources from leading career firms known for their recruitment activities in the New York area.
Among the panelists were the firm's managing partner of Baron Partners, Annette Eskenazi, Eric Robert Associates CEO Eric Silverman, managing director of Friedman Williams Group, Jonathan Friedman, and the Silver Search firm's managing director Sharon Siodmak. The moderator of the panel was Linda Paul, director of team development at Meetup. Paul expressed her pleasure of being invited as a moderator to such a beautiful meeting of a Turkish group that was established through the technology developed by her company.
Participating in the panel as a guest speaker Sonya Chada provided information about job opportunities at the NYTimes. Chada said, "Within the New York Times company we are hiring computer engineers, web programmers and database experts to many units such as the news center, NYTimes.com, about.com and blogrunner.com. Despite the crisis we have over 30 open positions at the moment. You can access and apply to these job openings through nytco.com/careers. We would like to see you among us.”
Founded on 17 October 2008 on the meetup.com, the group has provided the opportunity to meet and exchange information between members by organizing for a year panels on entrepreneurship and career and also technical seminars on various subjects.
