Learn how to build highly scalable web apps with Go!

Francesc Campoy (@francesc), developer advocate for Google, is holding a workshop where you will build a web application from scrap using Go for the backend and some HTML, CSS, JS on the frontend.

During the workshop you will not only get a hands on experience implementing REST APIs with and without any frameworks, but will also learn how to use the built-in concurrency features of Go to make the app faster.

You will also add features to the app using some of the services available on Google App Engine

-A datastore to store data in a non relational database.

-Memcache to cache and access data faster.

-Task queues to schedule tasks to be executed later.

-Mail to send and receive emails.

The app will then be deployed on top of Google App Engine, which provides a free tier, so attendees will go through the whole process from inception of an app to deployment and monitoring

This workshop will be held at The Economist located at 750 3rd Ave in the Banyan Room on the 5th floor and will start at 6:30 pm.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending this event and bring an ID with you!

P.S. There will be food so come hungry!

No previous experience in Go or programming is required. However, learning some basics beforehand, as well as setting up your environment, will allow you to get the most out of this workshop.
