[JOB]  Lead Ruby on Rails Backend Developer **NYC Area ONLY**

We are looking for a RoR backend developer; (Ruby on Rails) to join our early stage, well funded, social media start up.  You will have the privilege to pair program with RoR experts at our consulting firm Pivotal Labs in Manhattan, who we will work with the first 3-4 months or more until we transition to our own team.  Salary + equity.  Send your resume to [address removed].

We seek a RoR expert who is an internet open source (social media) guru who can define our internet architecture and be our lead developer using a lean agile methodology. 

We are just starting, so you have a clean slate to be the lead developer and lead the project from beginning to end.  For the first few months, you will work on-site with our consulting firm (Pivotal Labs in Manhattan), then the project will transition to you and a UI developer.

The job is full time; market salary & equity (we are a well funded start up, team of 3, and early stage so you are getting in very early and this is an opportunity for someone to create wealth through early stage stock options).

Who are you?  You are an Internet Tech Savvy Rock Star! You know the latest internet tools, technologies, resources, vendors, Web 2.0, mobile apps, social media, etc. and therefore can listen to the business model and spew back the perfect tech architecture in a nano second.  You’ve worked in Agile and love it.  You've worked with content management platforms, have developed custom internet apps, know the ins and outs of internet advertising, ecommerce, etc.

You loath corporate environments that reward mediocre work; instead, you’d rather blaze your own trail and work smart and efficiently hoping to be rewarded by yours and the company’s rapid success.

You are a creative, self-starter, self-sufficient, detailed, work-a-holic, and out of the box thinker who ‘gets-it’ when it comes to merging tech goals with business goals.

You have done this before; built an internet platform from the ground up.  You've managed a technical development team who has built a platform from start to finish, and you can generate confidence that you'll build ours on time, in budget...and you'll do it.

You have a keen interest in Social Media.  You like cool.

Role

•Define the technical and software architecture of our system.

•Write code as the lead developer.

•Lead all phases of the development process from code development and analysis to Q&A and deployment.

•Create, own and execute the technical roadmap to create a highly flexible, scalable and extendable architecture.

•Define and manage policies and procedures related to security, disaster recovery and business continuity.

•Ensure 24X7 operational support for the production environment.

Leadership

•Develop and implement a technical plan including cost estimates with a strong emphasis towards time-to-market

•Participate as a key member of the Management Team to ensure business and technology strategy are aligned

•Lead an in-house technical staff and outside contract firms in the execution of a technical plan within time and financial limits

•Maintain a fast paced agile development environment that stimulates innovation, creativity and free thinking

Qualifications

•Min -undergraduate degree (technical preferred)

•5-10+ years of internet technology development experience on open source platforms (Ruby on Rails a plus)

•5+ years as lead developer on open source internet platforms

•A complete understanding of Internet. Video, Chat, Internet Advertising, Java, Ajax, RoR, all Internet technologies, Object  Oriented development and database management

•Proven professional ability to perform in a consultative manner with strong communication skills and presentation style

•Strong understanding of and proven experience in managing all aspects of production and development infrastructure, including load balancing, firewalls, web servers, application servers, database servers, etc.

•Demonstrated ability to scale complex web applications and infrastructure

•Ability to implement major technology changes focused on scalability and reliability

About
