2nd ANNUAL UKULELE SOCIAL IN ASTORIA

Details
The Event Host is Roberto Buscarsi and his message is:
I’m coordinating a series of Ukulele-centric events in Astoria Park in Queens this summer and I’m hoping many (if not all) of the NYC Meetup posse will stop by and participate in a Group Jam / Performance / Teach-In.
Three consecutive Sundays – August 4, 11th and 18th from 1-6pm, Shore Boulevard, the romantic thoroughfare, will be designated motor-vehicle free, and revelers from Queens and beyond will participate in a myriad of activities designed to re-imagine the space. This is the third year of the “Shore Fest” and the fun and good times are much anticipated. For full event schedule see astoriaparkshorefest.yolasite.com
I have been inspired by the Ukulele picnics in Hawaii and Japan, the Make Music NY Ukulele Mass Appeals coordinated by Rick Bruner, the Luau portion of the Uke Fest and myriad other instance of ukulele magic to coordinate the dedication of a section of the reclaimed Shore Boulevard for Organized Spontaneity: Ukuelele Style. Astoria Park Shore Fest organizers are very excited about the return of the Ukulele Social.
If you don’t know Astoria Park, it’s a real gem - big and green, with plenty of both sun and shade, river views and picnic spots, the jewel of a neighborhood famous for it’s diversity of humans and food. It’s going to be a great space for members of the uke community to meet and jam.
If folks would like to have a spotlight (or sunlit) performance I’d be happy to arrange and promote it – I can promise little to nothing in monetary compensation but, as a part-time busker, I highly recommend this event for developing audiences. So if you’re interested, in a scheduled performance of 20-30 minutes let me know.
The focus is going to be on participatory Ukeacracy. We’re going to have a “bag of ukes” for teaching and spreading ukulele joy. There may be a couple non-uke instruments in the bag too I’m hoping lots of you will show up ready to play, with friends and song ideas and spare ukuleles if you can.
I’d like to facilitate whatever magic is possible, so let me know your thoughts at any time. I’m looking forward to seeing you.
