Dear New York Giants Fans Unite San Francisco,
You know what would be better than winning the way we did last week? Winning the game without the need for Eli to do “his thang” in the fourth quarter to bring the win home for the Giants. The most important part of last week’s game was the realization that the G-men will have to face that offense for years to come. The defensive line wasn't shy about how frustrating it was to play the Redskins and RGIII. The Redskins showed the same set, with multiple reads, over and over and over and over again. For an already crowded powerhouse NFC East, adding another is not something anyone wants especially the Giants.
The Giants travel to BIG D to take on the Dallas Cowgirls in Jerry’s playhouse. The unfortunate thing for Jerry Jones the general manager and Jerry Jones the owner of the Dallas Cowboys is that the only other team that is more comfortable in Dallas stadium than the Cowboys is the New York Football Giants.
Since the Cowboys moved into their new home Eli and Giants have made themselves at home. The Giants have average 37 points per game in their three trips to Arlington (33-31, 41-35, 37-34). If you were to look at the statistics for the Cowboys you would assume they’re having a great season. They’re 10th in total yards per game, 7th in passing and a paltry 20th in rushing. The Cowboys are the picture of inconsistency, undisciplined and not being able to finish their opponents. They also can’t score points. The Cowboys have only scored 113 points with 11 touchdowns (26th in the league) so if you
need a fantasy place kicker, Dan Bailey might be your guy. Which is hard to believe when you see their offense is 10th in the league in total yards, 7th in passing and 20th (ehh) rushing the ball. Romo is hot and cold with the Giants. Hot, because he will find the open receiver and get them the ball. Cold because he takes a LOT of hits but historically has played well against the Giants when he is in the game. The Cowboys enter this game injury plagued on both sides of the ball but that doesn’t mean they will simply roll-over, especially when the New York Football Giants come to town. The Cowboys defense continues to a bright spot on the stat sheet. The Cowboys are 4th in the NFL in total yards allowed, 3rd against the passing game and 15th against the pass. The Giants will be tested against this strong Cowboy defense.
The Giants come to Dallas 5-2 winning three of their last their last four and five of their last six. I confused Pat Flaherty with my neighbor last week but I would like to remind everyone of the amazing job he has done with the Giants offensive line. Manning has been sacked once in the last four games and only 6 for the season which leads the NFL. I RARELY give Gilbride a thumb up but his play calling along with Flaherty’s coaching has created a solid front line protecting our number one asset. The Giants are currently 2nd in the NFL for totally yards on offense (411 yards per game), 3rd in passing (395 yards per game), 12th rushing which is a real turnaround from
what the running game has been over the last year and half (116 yards per game, 4.5 per carry) and the Giants are 8th in total touchdowns (21). The Giants have become a real passing threat even though they don’t get the coverage same national attention as other receivers. The vertical game plus the critics to Bradshaw have help light a fire under his ass and returning Ahmad back a form we’re all accustomed to. With Brown returning from his concussion the Giants have a two punch combo that helps keep defenses on their heels. With Cowboys losing Sean Lee this might a great opportunity for Bennett to get some sweet revenge in Big D. I wouldn't be shocked to see the full back Hynoski getting some looks on under routes as well.
The Giants defense needs to find the same energy and drive they had in San Francisco. Yes the Redskins are dynamic with RGIII and yes they did play “well” but there were many more opportunities for defense to capitalize on during that game. With a weak secondary the Giants front four has to bring pressure to Romo. The Giants defense statistically doesn't reflect a team that is 5-2. They are 24th in total yards allowed (379 yards), 21st against the pass (253 yards) and 23rd against the rush (126.4 yards). Up until the niner’s game the Giants were not getting the quarterback as much as you would expect. The Cowboys offensive line is a real weak spot and the
Giants didn't capitalize in week one. In the last two games the defense has logged 9 sacks and I would like expect this recent trend of 3+ sack games to continue given the issues the Cowboys offensive line is dealing with. The Giants are currently 14th with 17 sacks.
For the record against the Redskins:
Time of possession: Giants lost 27:17 v 32:43
3rd down conversions: 8/12 or 65% WOW
Play calling: Rushes: 19 / Passes: 40 (+35.39) UGGH
