NY Quantified Self Show&Tell #12 (//ApK media, Greenpoint)

Quantified Self is returning to Greenpoint, Brooklyn!

Help us spread the word and get folks from Brooklyn who are doing any kind of self-tracking projects. Talk to artists, hackers, engineers, scientists, students and tell them to come share with the group in Greenpoint.

Please come and join us on Wednesday, June 1st for our 12th Show&Tell. We will gather in Greenpoint for an evening of sharing our projects, demonstrations, tools and ideas. If you are self-tracking or experimenting in any way -- habits, health, mood, physical activity, thoughts, location, spending, relationships, etc. -- come and share your methods, results and insights with us.

6 -7:00 pm SOCIAL HOUR AND NETWORKING
Come early and connect with others who share your interest in QS. We'll have refreshments on hand to get us started.

7:00 - 8:30 pm QS SHOW & TELL TALKS
Presentations will start at 7pm. We save our talks for personal accounts of self-tracking and self-experimentation, rather than sales pitches. If you have testimonials/stories from users of your device or application, we welcome those. We're also interested in data visualizations, gadgets and tools that you've created to track and make meaning of something about yourself.

If you'd like to give a talk, please let us know in advance so we can discuss your topic and how much time you'll need. We keep the length of presentations to 5 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A. If you have slides to show, feel free but it's not required.

QS SPONSORS: OUR THANKS TO //A p K media
Our venue for this Show&Tell is generously being provided by Daniel Navetta and the incredible team at //A p K media. The creative media and music agency //A p K media has renovated a large loft space in Greenpoint that is the hub of their company but more importantly a community resource for talented and ambitious filmmakers, artists and musicians in New York.

GETTING TO GREENPOINT
Address is 97 Green Street, Loft G11 in Greenpoint. Closest subway is the G train, or the 7 in Long Island City (which requires walking over the Pulaski bridge). Feel free to hopstop it.

QS CONFERENCE
Less than a month away is our first Quantified Self Conference being held on May 28-29 in Mountain View, CA. Come join us for what is shaping up to be a jam-packed event.

QS SPONSORSHIP - WHAT IT IS
We use the sponsor money to pay for professional video recording and some decent refreshments, as well as to fund projects that help the larger QS community. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring our local chapter of Quantified Self or providing a venue for our Show&Tells, please let us know.

Hope to see you all on the 1st of June!

My first quantified self meetup and it was terrific. High energy group full of great ideas and passion. Lots of geeks like me, but also many artists, etc. We hung out for hours afterwards in a local beer garden.

Africa hot in the room - I was shvitzing before my presentation. But it was a muggy, hot night. The tech worked perfectly and there was even nice snacks/drinks.

Worth the double bridge & tunnel from NJ.

It was probably good for what it was, but it didn't appeal to me as much as I'd hoped. It was all about creating software, basically, and less about data interpretation.

Artists and entrepreneurs, doctors and patients, investors and innovators, data libertarians and the actively curious communicating common cause. I'm absolutely loathe to say it, but collaboration doesn't quite cut it. Guys, we had synergy.

My first QS meetup. I've been following the blog closely for a year now and when I couldn't make the conference, I decided I had to console myself with a meetup.

Already a 90 degree day outside, the venue was maybe 5 to 10 degrees hotter inside. At first I was embarrassed to be sweating so profusely. But looking back on it, in a strange way the heat and humidity pushed us out of our comfort zones and gave us one more thing to laugh about. I imagine there are companies that pay for that kind of group bonding.

    Worth the Megabus from Philly

Excellent, engaging presentations - a real community...and the Locker Project rocks! It would be great to have some affilliated working groups where members could zero in on QS areas of particular interest.

What a fun group! Interestingly, most people there seemed to be tracking themselves digitally. I will definitely will return for the next meeting, despite long commute and heat.

Yep, Steve Dean runs a great meet-up, keeps it moving....and questions/chatter are the best part. Interesting presentations last night, good mix of smart focused people quantifiying and sharing ways to visualize and build software. Great vibe.
