Quest in the Cathedral

Part 4 - Riddlers and Tricksters

Game Master: Ben / Sarah

Duration: 2 - 4 hours

Player Limit: 6

Adventure prelude…

The characters on this adventure are pilgrims, all seeking the knowledge that can be gained from an Oracle that lives high up in the Cathedral. The Cathedral in Santa Cora stretches as high as the clouds and beyond, and walking the millions of steps up into the clouds is considered a form of worship and a holy endeavor.

To reach the Oracle requires a trek equivalent to climbing several mountains, and most pilgrims turn back. Even if the pilgrims are hardy enough to climb the Cathedral there is the issue of the thousands of monks, hermits, stylites, ascetics, zealots, mystery cults, priests, paladins, cenobites, stoics, sages, saints, fakirs, holy fools, desert mothers, demianites, matrisses, nuns, templars, sōhei, mendicants, eremitics, barefoot  seekers of truth, and celestines. Each god or goddess of light has a temple within the mighty Cathedral, and to pass up the Cathedral it is necessary to pass through most of them. Some might be bypassed or passed through with naught but a simple tithe or show of devotion.. other holy places are not so easy to pass through.

Quest in the Cathedral is a dungeon crawl, but ascending vertically and with a ‘holy’ theme.

Adventure recaps from the previous adventure will be posted on our blog here: http://13thagetalespinners.wordpress.com/

Important note:  This is a 2nd-level tier adventure that takes place simultaneously with Crown of the Lich King and Wyrd of the Wild Wood.  We will be playing with new level 2 characters for this adventure!  Don't worry about the characters who survived the last adventures - they will be returning for higher level tier adventures. See the below chart.

About the game…

13th Age is a new fantasy roleplaying game, designed by Jonathan Tweet – lead designer of Dungeons & Dragons® third edition – and Rob Heinsoo, the lead designer of the fourth edition of D&D®. 13th Age honors old school fantasy role-playing values as it dives deep into rich story telling adventures. The game features a familiar d20-style system, but it lighter on the rules compared to D&D which results in smoother, free-flowing combat. An Escalation Die rule that keeps battles fast and exciting by giving characters an escalating combat bonus the longer they fight.

The game focuses on connecting players to the world they are in through the use of background-based skills as well as detailed relationships with the key movers and shakers of the world – The Icons. Adventures will encourage creative and imaginative ways to solve the challenges set before them.

The adventure is crafted for 3-6 players.  The majority of mechanical character development will be completed in advance with 10 available pre-generated characters.  Players will be able to select from these and develop their background, Icon relationships  and their place in their world before diving into the adventure itself.

How does Saturday, December 7th work for sessions 4 & 5? We'll play from 2 - 5pm, or start at Noon if that works better for everyone. That way it wouldn't conflict with other events planned that day. Yea or Nay?

Thanks. My workshop has been shifted to Brookfield, so I'll be closer than I expected to be, but it's starting an hour later, which means I'm still going to be late. :-( My new arrival time at your place is a bit before one. Don't let the guys kill all the kewl stuff without me. :-)

Weekends work best for me, but otherwise I could conceivably make any other day work. It would have to be after 6 PM though on a weekday because I can't really get off work any earlier.

When would everyone like to reschedule? Both games on Sunday, Dec 1st and Dec 8th need to be rescheduled. Does any other day of the week work for everyone?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
