NBH Speed Dating Walk

Tired of the stereotype indoor speed-dating events, singles are seeking out partners on country walks. They come looking for a partner wearing layers of clothes, muddy boots, dirty trousers and a rucksack filled with that all-important non-alcoholic drink (water) and the romantic squashed sandwich (dinner) for two, with that special look into your left eye ;-) .....The keen, The hopeless and The sexy…..
Welcome to NBH Speed-Dating Walk with a difference……An imaginative new form of exercise, in some ways regardless of your sexuality..........From William Wordsworth to Thomas Hardy, human emotions and the open air have gone hand in hand. Here at NBH we’ve stripped away the poetry to take a more earthy view of the countryside and to help you build a happy social network, and to find a new partner/friends.

Join us for a speed-dating walk in 413 acres of rolling meadows, enchanting brooks, exquisite lakes, ancient woodland, and imposing historical sites. Trent park forms part of London's Green Belt and being a country park it provides a natural, rural and tranquil atmosphere right on the outskirts of London.

Before we set off on our 9 mile love ramble, you are given a helpful pack of jolly chat-up lines: "What made you decide to go speed-dating?" and "What's your favourite television programme?" And how can we possibly fail with follow-ups such as: "What would be your perfect date?"
It's hard to look glamorous in a biting October wind, but you'll do your best as you follow your organiser Michael, who blows a whistle every 15 minutes. Everyone duly swaps places and starts chatting up someone else, pausing to tick a yes or no surreptitiously on their walk-cards: matches mean phone numbers later. And phone numbers mean dates http://img2.meetupstatic.com/981263258369601089/img/smileys/smile.gif

"Are we going to walk in the woods?" asks one tall looking man wearing a brand new blue Berghaus jacket (label still attached). "Are we going to walk in the woods together?" Maybe he has the wrong idea. The instructions are certainly clear: "It is recommended that walkers are on their best behaviour and do not use foul or sexually suggestive language".
NOTE: Sexual harassment, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature to any member of this group from any member of this group WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
************
Age groups will be mixed, but it provides a great chance at the beginning and end of the walk to socialise and meet all walkers.
Please also appreciate that the main purpose of the events on this site is to provide you with an opportunity to socialise and meet new people, friends and potential partner/friends.
The venue is an ideal setting for our speed-dating walk through the serene, bucolic and picturesque surroundings of Trent Country Park. However, it’s only secondary to the main purpose of our event. Therefore if a person is not what you are looking for keep it in perspective and don't let it spoil your walk, as 15mins of your time is not too much to ask, and there is always something to look at if you run out of conversation - those trees, the views, the squirrels....... Focus on the social interaction that way you will find that the walk will be all the more rewarding.

The walk will last approximately 6hrs and will start at 10am from Oakwood tube (Piccadilly Line). We will enter Trent Park via Snakes Lane and will visit The Mansion, the Solitary Obelisk and Camlet Moat which are just some of the remarkable historical sites and an ornate Water Garden.

Camlet Moat is a scheduled Ancient Monument and is protected under the 1979 Ancient Monument and Archaeological Areas. Nothing is known of the origins of Camlet Moat. The first probable occupant was Richard Pounz, Keeper of the Chase in the 1320s. In 1429 the lodge was demolished and the materials sold to help pay for repairs to Hertford Castle.

What gives Trent Country Park its distinctive character is that it has survived almost unchanged from those days when it served for nearly 400 years as royal hunting ground. Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and James I could be seen on their regal horses hunting deer in the splendid forest.
************
At the end of the walk we will have drinks at the Cock & Dragon pub in Cockfosters, which serves Thai food. This gives all walkers a further opportunity to chat to each other more and hopefully could be the beginning of new friendships.
Ticked cards are handed in to be analysed, and on Sunday member’s will receive an email with their positive matches.....
“What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matterscompared to what lies within us.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
